This site was created to promote my thesis b4lance (for balance) which in turn shows my design process, from prestudy through research and studio. b4lance is a visual way to interpret personal health data, helping to create a direct emotional link to important information about your habits. In Product I refine and document my thesis to make it commercially viable.

b4lance is a visual way to interpret personal health data, helping to create a direct emotional link to important information about your habits.
b4lance is an app that makes you aware of your health, by collecting your health data in a simple, visually driven way. The goal: to change your habits towards a healthier lifestyle.
1. prestudy
Prestudy was predominantly a visual creative phase, involving a broad ranging exploration of infographics, education, and audience interactions. This included teaching the subjects of identity, persona, and infographics to 6th grade students. This helped me identify a set of themes that contained ample depth to sustain research.
2. research
Research took the discoveries from prestudy and explored them in a deeper, more focused manner. I explored graphics to educate in three ways; for schooling, for health, and for self discovery. I covered independently the topics gestalt and semiotics. This phase informed an issue for studio—balancing health goals through the use of infographics.
3. the circle
I created the circle in a multitude of mediums as a visual exploration of this shape. While each circle shows something physically different, they collectively say “balance”. When we create a circle by hand the imperfections are clues to the process used, in reverse we can use the circle to inform process and communicate information.
4. studio
In studio I took the issue from research—balancing health goals through the use of infographics—and created a visual language to help manifest my visual explorations. The visual aimed to engage the audience in a dialogue about the narrative of habits and health, and in doing so I developed the logo, positioning statement, user personas, and marketing.
